What Customers Say About The Penguin London Mapguid (Penguin Handbooks):

I received this as a door prize before I went on my semester in London when I was in college. One night, I left it on the tube and I went out and bought another one the very next day because I loved using it so much. This was INDESPESIBLE for the 3.5 months I was in London. It has lots of information about the city: little bit of history, places to visit, restaurants, theaters and tube map information and it's small/thin enough to carry with you on a day-to-day basis. Thankfully I didn't lose that one and still have it for whenever I go back to London; which I hope will be soon. If you need a mapguide for London-THIS IS THE ONE TO GET.

Have used this map book for years. It's great. I also slip the open page I need into one of the 3 ring binder plastic covers (fits perfectly) so it doesn't get messed up, it's always open & handy to the page I need

Quick, easy, accurate, perfect size and very portable. We just returned from three weeks in London. A trip of a lifetime, and this little hummer helped make it that way. Helped us feel like "old timers" in very short period of time. If you're going to London, even for a day or two, this is the map to have.

Just a lightweight simple book format. When planning my latest trip to London, I overindulged when it came to buying maps - and I already owned a few small A to Z and similar maps/mapbooks from earlier visits. But when I got to London and was heading out of my hotel room for the tube station. Nor were there any pages to unfold and fight with. Mine is marked up with notes and routes from my last visit, and will get more annotations as I plan my next trip.I agree with other reviewers who said that if the book covered more area, it would become too large to carry easily. I always slipped this one into my bag.

I was able to find almost every street or court I needed in it, although I believe it's somewhat simplified (several times I looked for an obscure small "mews" or "way" off a listed street and didn't find it, perhaps my fault and perhaps because it was omitted from the map). I took only a few maps with me, including this one, and I'm very glad that I took it.For some reason it didn't spark my interest all that much when I was leafing through it in my living room. It's a great size and scale for on-the-go use. I noticed some other tourists using it too. It's small and light enough to carry easily, and the pages are easy to comprehend with a few glances while out and about. No need to stop and nearly squint to make out streets, place names, intersections, etc., because the pages are larger than the "pocket sized" A to Z type books/booklets. But this is a mapguide for travelers, not a detailed map for residents - and I assume the makers sacrificed some detail in the interests of readability.

It covers the central areas of London which are most visited by travelers.

Having lived in London, I can say she isn't easily navigated by those with intimate knowledge of her streets. Check out some books from the library with recommended walks, highlight them in this books, photocopy the details. If you're moving, splurge for the London A-Z book. For traveler's this is the book you should NOT LEAVE your HOTEL WITHOUT. This book of maps will save you tons of weight in your bags. I can not recommend it highly enough.
